Stirling Hinchliffe Joins Basketball Queensland Board of Directors

Basketball Queensland is pleased to announce the appointment of former Queensland Cabinet Minister Stirling Hinchliffe to its Board of Directors.

Hinchliffe served in the Queensland Parliament for 15 years, including 10 years as a Cabinet Minister. Over the course of his political career, he held senior portfolios including Infrastructure & Planning; Employment; Skills; Mining; Transport; the Commonwealth Games; Local Government; Multicultural Affairs; Racing; Innovation; Tourism and Sport.

Reflecting on his lifelong connection to the sport of basketball, Hinchliffe shared his anticipation for this new chapter.

“Having been involved in basketball since the age of twelve, I am excited about giving back to a sport which has meant so much to myself and my family.  I hope to contribute to the Basketball Queensland mission, and respond especially to the huge but positive challenges presented by rapid growth.”

His appointment brings a wealth of leadership experience and strategic insight to Basketball Queensland, as the organisation continues to grow the game at all levels across the state.

Fiona Allen, Chair of Basketball Queensland, said she looks forward to working with Hinchliffe, and his involvement would further strengthen the organisation’s ability to deliver outcomes across infrastructure, participation, and community engagement.

"Stirling has a wealth of experience and this experience will assist BQ deliver and develop on our strategic plan. While he is well known for his passion for basketball, his appointment to the board is based on the skills he brings, and because he passes the materially ‘test’ of being a good person, acting in the best interests of the game.”

Hinchliffe’s background, including his contributions to Brisbane’s 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games bid, is expected to play a key role in shaping the future direction of the sport in Queensland.
