Basketball Queensland welcomes the announcement of the Gladstone Regional Indoor Sports Centre (GRISC), a significant investment that will support the continued growth of basketball and indoor sport across Central Queensland.
The Gladstone Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) has officially awarded the construction contract for the new two-court indoor facility, which will be purpose-built to meet FIBA standards and cater for training, competition and community use.
Backed by $10 million in Federal Government funding, the project addresses a long-standing shortage of indoor court space in the region. For the Gladstone basketball community, the new facility will provide much-needed capacity to support participation, strengthen local pathways and create a more sustainable future for the sport.
Basketball Queensland CEO Joshua Pascoe said the project represents an important milestone for the region and acknowledged the work of those who helped bring it to life.
“This is a really positive step for basketball in Gladstone and Central Queensland. Access to quality facilities is critical to growing the game, and this investment gives the local community the foundation to continue building participation and strengthening pathways for years to come.
“Duane Jacobsen and the team at Gladstone have been instrumental in getting this project to this point. Their advocacy over a long period of time and commitment to driving this process has played a key role in making this facility a reality for the community.
“We know the impact a facility like this can have, not just for players and clubs, but for the broader community. It creates more opportunities to get involved, to host events, and to keep people connected through sport.”
The development will include two FIBA-compliant courts, changerooms and amenities, as well as supporting spaces such as offices, meeting rooms and a kiosk. The venue is designed as a multi-use facility, ensuring it delivers value not only for basketball but for the broader Gladstone community.
Beyond increasing access to the game, the new centre will also create opportunities to host regional competitions and events, further strengthening Gladstone’s role within the Queensland basketball network.
Basketball Queensland acknowledges the leadership of GABA, along with the support of the Australian Government and project partners, in progressing this important project.
With the design phase now underway and construction expected to commence in 2026, the Gladstone Regional Indoor Sports Centre represents a strong investment in the future of basketball in Queensland.
