Basketball Queensland Announces New Board Leadership Appointments

Basketball Queensland Announces New Board Leadership Appointments

Basketball Queensland is pleased to announce a series of Board leadership appointments that will help guide the organisation through its next chapter of growth and development.

Following recent Board elections and appointments, Claudia Brassard has been elected Chair of the Basketball Queensland Board, with Jimmy Williams elected Deputy Chair. Current Chair Fiona Allen has voluntarily stepped down given her term will end in early 2027 but will remain on the Board as a Director, while Richard Goodbody joins the Board following his recent election at the AGM.

The appointments reflect a natural progression of leadership within Basketball Queensland, bringing together experience, continuity and fresh perspectives as the organisation continues to grow the game across the state.

A long-time contributor to basketball in Queensland through coaching, governance and leadership roles, Claudia has served as Deputy Chair and Chair of the Finance Committee and brings extensive board and executive leadership experience to the role. Claudia steps into the role of Chair following several years of service on the Board and will help lead Basketball Queensland as it continues to support its member associations, strengthen pathways and create opportunities for participants at every level of the game. While Claudia is coaching in the WNBL interstate, her commitment to BQ remains as strong as ever and any actual or perceived conflict between these two roles will be managed appropriately.

Joining Claudia in the Board's leadership team is Jimmy Williams, who has been elected Deputy Chair. Jimmy has been a valued member of the Board and brings a wealth of experience and passion for basketball in Queensland. His appointment reflects the strength of leadership within the organisation and the Board's commitment to building on the momentum of recent years.

While voluntarily stepping down as Chair, Fiona Allen will continue to serve as a Director, ensuring Basketball Queensland retains valuable experience and continuity during the transition. Under Fiona's leadership, Basketball Queensland has continued to strengthen its governance, grow its numbers significantly and position itself for future growth. Fiona has played an important role in guiding the organisation through a period of significant growth and will remain an important contributor to the Board as Basketball Queensland continues to pursue its strategic priorities.

The Board also welcomes Richard Goodbody, who joins at an exciting time for the sport. Richard brings new perspectives and experience to the Board and will contribute to Basketball Queensland's ongoing work supporting associations, clubs, volunteers, officials, coaches and athletes across the state.

Basketball Queensland Chief Executive Officer Joshua Pascoe welcomed the appointments and acknowledged the value of both continuity and renewal within the Board.

"We are entering an exciting period for our sport, and these appointments position us strongly for the future. I look forward to working closely with the Board as we continue building on the momentum we've created and delivering positive outcomes for the basketball community."

Incoming Chair Claudia Brassard said she was honoured to take on the position and excited about the future of the sport.

"Basketball Queensland is in a strong position, and I am honoured to have the opportunity to serve as Chair. We have passionate volunteers, dedicated associations, outstanding athletes and coaches, and a sport that continues to grow in every corner of our state."
"Basketball is entering an incredibly exciting period. As we look towards Brisbane 2032 and the opportunities it presents, our focus must be on continuing to strengthen pathways, support our associations, advocate for the facilities and infrastructure our communities need, and ensure more Queenslanders have the opportunity to experience our game I look forward to working alongside my fellow Directors, our staff, government partners and stakeholders throughout Queensland as we continue to grow and strengthen basketball for future generations."

These appointments provide a strong platform for the future. Bringing together continuity, leadership and new perspectives, the Board remains committed to supporting member associations, creating opportunities across the basketball pathway and ensuring the sport continues to thrive in communities throughout the state.

Basketball Queensland congratulates Claudia Brassard, Jimmy Williams and Richard Goodbody on their appointments and thanks Fiona Allen for her ongoing contribution to the organisation and the wider basketball community.
