Rachael McCully Joins Basketball Queensland as Performance & Pathways Manager

Rachael McCully has officially joined Basketball Queensland as the new Performance & Pathways Manager, bringing with her a wealth of experience across playing, coaching and basketball operations.
A highly respected figure within Australian basketball, McCully’s appointment strengthens Basketball Queensland’s commitment to developing high performance pathways and supporting the continued growth of athletes and coaches across the state.
McCully enjoyed an outstanding 324 game WNBL career and is recognised as a WNBL Life Member following her long-standing contribution to the league. A former Australian Opal and Townsville Fire captain, she led the club to its inaugural WNBL Championship in 2015 and was twice named the Robyn Maher WNBL Defensive Player of the Year in 2010 and 2011.
Her impact on the game extends well beyond her playing career. McCully has held leadership and operational roles across Queensland basketball, including serving as General Manager of the Townsville Fire and Operations Manager at Suncoast Clippers Basketball.
McCully also recently served as Head Coach of the Sunshine Coast Phoenix NBL1 Women’s program, and was an assistant coach for the Queensland South Under 18 Girls team that claimed silver at the 2026 Australian Under 18 National Championships.
McCully’s connection with Basketball Queensland pathways also includes participation in the Aspire Female Coaching Program, reflecting her ongoing commitment to coach development and female leadership within the sport.
In her new role as Performance & Pathways Manager, McCully will work closely with athletes, coaches and stakeholders to support the continued development of Queensland’s high-performance and representative pathways.

“Rachael brings an outstanding mix of playing, coaching, administration and leadership experience, and her appointment strongly aligns with our strategic plan to elevate the sport of basketball across Queensland.
“Her knowledge of high-performance environments, athlete development, coaching pathways and association operations will add value across the board, supporting our athletes, coaches, associations and wider basketball community as we continue to strengthen the game at every level.”
Speaking on her appointment, McCully said she was excited to take on the Performance and Pathways Manager role at Basketball Queensland and contribute to the continued growth of basketball across the state.
“Queensland has outstanding talent, passionate coaches and strong programs already in place and I am looking forward to working with athletes, staff and stakeholders to support and strengthen high performance and representative pathways across every level,” McCully said.
