Stirling Hinchliffe Steps Down from Basketball Queensland Board Following New Appointment

Basketball Queensland acknowledges Stirling Hinchliffe, who has stepped down from the Board following his appointment as Consul-General in Auckland, New Zealand.

“Giving back to the sport which I have drawn so much from, at a time when it is emerging as a major code in Queensland, has been a privilege,” Stirling said.

Stirling has been a valued member of the Basketball Queensland Board, providing strong leadership and insight during his time as a Director. His contribution has been particularly significant alongside his broader role within government, where he has been a consistent advocate for sport and community outcomes across Queensland.

In his previous role as Queensland Minister for Tourism, Innovation and Sport, Stirling was a strong supporter of basketball, recognising its rapid growth and the important role it plays in communities across the state. His support helped elevate the profile of the sport and contributed to ongoing opportunities for investment and development.

Fiona Allen, Chair of Basketball Queensland, said Stirling had made a valuable contribution during his time on the Board.

“I am grateful that Stirling agreed to be part of the board and for the contribution he made while with us,” Allen said.

“Stirling’s passion for basketball and knowledge of sports generally is well known, and the Board appreciates the value he added to BQ.”

Joshua Pascoe, Chief Executive Officer of Basketball Queensland, said Stirling’s impact on the sport would be long lasting.

“Stirling’s leadership and commitment to the sport of basketball in Queensland has been greatly appreciated, and I look forward to watching his success in his new role,” Pascoe said.

Basketball Queensland thanks Stirling for his contribution to the organisation and the sport more broadly. His advocacy and support have left a positive impact, and the Board wishes him all the best in his new role in Auckland.
