Basketball Queensland investing in Basketball Development Officers

Basketball Queensland (BQ) have continued their investment into four major regional Associations in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay and Rockhampton. This investment program, which began in 2019, will assist the Associations to employ Basketball Development Officers to service the Association and surrounding region.

The role of the Basketball Development Officers (BDO) is to develop players and coaches within the region in line with the Basketball Queensland Style of Play, working in conjunction with the State Performance Program, Future Development Program, Next Gen Program and QLD North State Teams.

Below is the list of current BDO’s in North and Central Queensland…

Cairns Basketball – Kerry Williams

Townsville Basketball – Ethan Betts

Mackay Basketball – Rob Grieve

Rockhampton Basketball – Wade Rebetzke

Each BDO has been involved with Basketball Queensland as a coach or player and has a strong understanding of the direction of player and coach development within Queensland.

Basketball Queensland Coach Development Manager, Luke McGuire, believes that the support of BDO’s across Queensland will lead to greater talent identification and athlete development.

“Having official representation within these regional hubs allows BQ to stay in close contact with the North and Central Queensland coaches and athletes. It enables us to run regular training sessions with experienced and knowledgeable coaches that understand the BQ Style of Play and concepts we need our coaches and athletes to be familiar with in order to go on and represent Queensland,” said Luke McGuire.

BQ will be empowering BDO’s to lead more high performance training to their local and surrounding associations over the coming months to make sure all regional areas are serviced and supported.
