BQ Diploma of Sport Program

BQ Diploma of Sport Program

Basketball Queensland are proud to announce a new partnership with TAFE Queensland to offer the Basketball Queensland Diploma Program from 2024. The course provides an immersive learning experience for passionate basketball enthusiasts looking to jump-start their career in sport.

This program gives you the opportunity to study in a practical, hands-on learning environment, and gain real experience through work integrated learning facilitated by Basketball Queensland. This program is ideal for students looking to enter the sports industry.

Students will study the Diploma of Sport over a one-year period with a specialisation in basketball. The curriculum includes a variety of units touching on high performance training, coaching techniques, and managing people and sporting events. You'll be introduced to sports development and discover how to design, deliver and manage a range of basketball activities, including training sessions, junior activations, tournaments and competitions. Successful completion of the course will qualify you to work as a coach or sport development manager across a diverse range of settings.

Based at the head quarters of Basketball Queensland in Logan, students will have access to competition-grade courts, quality learning spaces, high-performance strength and conditioning gym, as well as regularly engage with guest presenters from Basketball Queensland and the sports industry.

Students will have the opportunity to supercharge their resume by unlocking 100 hours of work integrated learning across Basketball Queensland and our affiliate organisations.

Chris Angus, Operations Manager for Basketball Queensland said the program builds on training opportunities created by the recently announced Basketball Queensland TAFE at School Program, to offer school leavers and adult learners a fully integrated pathway into roles within the basketball industry.

“As Queensland’s fastest growing sport, our work force is constantly expanding as we move into the Olympic era. There has never been a better opportunity to start your career in sport.”

Jesse O’Hara, TAFE Queensland’s Academy of Sport Manager, said that embedding this program at the Basketball Queensland headquarters in Logan, students are getting unrivalled access to the inner sanctum and the coal face of the basketball industry.

“The work integrated learning model will give students the tools they need to pursue careers in sport by bringing the theory components of the course to life.”

TAFE Queensland’s diploma-to-degree pathways allows you to complete a diploma and bachelor degree in the time it usually takes to complete a degree alone. Completing this program will give you up to one-year of credit towards a number of degrees at a selection of partnered universities.
