Beginner Referee Courses – April 7

Basketball Queensland Referees will be delivering two separate Beginner Referee Courses on the same day, providing an opportunity for new officials across multiple regions to get started in officiating.
North Brisbane & Sunshine Coast Camp:
- Date: Tuesday, 7 April
- Time: 9:00am – 11:00am
- Location: Morayfield Sports & Events Centre

- Date: Tuesday, 7 April
- Time: 3:00pm – 5:00pm

How to Register
All participants must register via EtrainU and complete the following steps:
- Create an EtrainU account (registered to Basketball Queensland)
- Complete the online C1 Referee course module via EtrainU
- Enrol in the Action Day using the registration links above
Referee Pathway Update
Basketball Australia has recently introduced a new national referee framework, which is now being rolled out across all states and territories. This updated structure provides a clearer and more consistent pathway for officials at every level of the game.

The new qualification levels and pathways are outlined below:
Community Referee Pathway (C1, C2, C3)
Who it’s for: Entry-level referees involved in junior domestic and representative basketball
Typical Competitions:
- Junior Domestic
- SQJBC / NQJBC / CQJBC and State Championships
- Low-level Senior Domestic
Typical Programs:
- Future Referee Program (FRP)
- State Referee Program (16s SRP)
Focus: Building fundamental skills, confidence, and experience
Qualification Levels: C1 → C2 → C3
State Referee Pathway (S1, S2, S3)
Who it’s for: Experienced referees involved in senior and representative basketball
Typical Competitions:
- U18 QLD State Championships
- High-level Senior Domestic
- QSLY and QSL
- Basketball Australia Junior National Tournaments
Typical Programs:
- State Referee Program (18s SRP)
- National Referee Program (NRP)
- NBL1 Mentoring Program
Focus: Developing advanced skills, applying interpretations, and understanding elite concepts
Qualification Levels: S1 → S2 → S3
National Referee Pathway (N1, N2, N3)
Who it’s for: Elite officials established in NBL1 and national competitions
Typical Competitions:
- NBL1 North
- U20 Basketball Australia National Championships
- Basketball Australia Elite Programs (NRDP and ERP)
- NBL / WNBL
- FIBA Licenced officials
Focus: Consistent application of advanced concepts and high-performance officiating
Qualification Levels: N1 → N2 → N3
These courses are the first step into the referee pathway and a great opportunity to get involved in the game from a different perspective.
