Basketball Queensland Backs The BUSY Schools’ Hoops4Schools Initiative to Support Disengaged Youth

Basketball Queensland Backs The BUSY Schools’ Hoops4Schools Initiative to Support Disengaged Youth

Basketball Queensland (BQ) has joined forces with The BUSY School to support the Hoops4Schools initiative, a national awareness and fundraising campaign helping the 20% of Australian teenagers who are currently disengaged from mainstream education.

Originally developed and run by The BUSY School, Hoops4Schools is now entering its next phase with the support of Basketball Queensland as a sporting partner, helping expand the reach and impact of the campaign through the power of sport.

The campaign features two key activations:

  • The Hoops4Schools 20-Day Challenge (15 August – 4 September 2025), where students, schools, families and workplaces across Australia shoot hoops each day to raise awareness and funds.

  • The Corporate Challenge Day (5 September 2025) on the Gold Coast, a high-energy, in-person event that brings together students, business leaders and community champions.

The Corporate Day will be delivered in partnership with Be Challenged, who will lead a series of team-based activities designed to energise, connect and inspire participants. With everything from teamwork games to shootout challenges and 3-on-3 basketball, the day blends friendly competition with a meaningful cause.

Basketball Queensland’s General Manager of Business, Kimberley Hibbert, said it was an easy decision to get behind the campaign.

“We’re proud to support The BUSY School and their ongoing work in creating alternative education options for young people. Basketball already plays such a strong role in helping kids build confidence, connection and resilience, and this campaign takes that one step further by putting education front and centre.”

Paul Miles, Managing Director of The BUSY Group, echoed that sentiment, highlighting the purpose behind the campaign.

“This initiative is about reminding people that not all students thrive in the same environment, and that support networks truly matter. Having the support of Basketball Queensland and bringing together young people in communities across Queensland is a powerful way to start this important conversation.”

“It’s the ripple effect, recognising disengagement in education and choosing to be part of the solution. Hoops4Schools makes it fun, accessible, and focused for 20 days of real impact.”
