Julie George Steps Down from Basketball Queensland Board After Nine Years of Service

Basketball Queensland acknowledges and thanks Julie George, who is retiring as a Director after nine years of dedicated service on the Board.

During her time with Basketball Queensland, Julie played a significant leadership role across multiple areas of governance and strategy. She served on the Finance, Governance and Nominations Committees, and held the positions of both Deputy Chair and Chair during a transformational period for the sport across Queensland.

Julie’s contribution has shown a deep commitment to strengthening the organisation and supporting the growth of basketball at all levels. Her leadership, experience and steady guidance have helped shape key decisions that continue to influence the direction of the sport today. She leaves a lasting impact on Basketball Queensland, and her presence and leadership will be greatly missed.

Fiona Allen, Chair of Basketball Queensland, said:

“Julie brought governance rigour to the board and always put the sport first.  She was considered and respectful and I’m grateful both personally and on behalf of the board for her contributions."

Joshua Pascoe, Chief Executive Officer of Basketball Queensland, said:

"Julie in her time on the BQ Board has led Basketball Queensland with honesty, integrity and an innovative mindset that has been instrumental in the success of the organisation."

Following Julie’s departure, Richard Goodbody will fill the role leading into the 2026 AGM.

Basketball Queensland sincerely thanks Julie for her outstanding service, leadership and commitment to the game over the past nine years, and wishes her all the very best for the future.
