The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) Basketball Team is set to travel to the United States later this year as part of an international tour centred around the 25th anniversary of September 11.
The tour will see a team of frontline firefighters travel to New York City to participate in commemorative activities, connect with international emergency service personnel, and take part in basketball fixtures during their visit.
During a recent meeting, members of the QFD Basketball Team presented a framed team jersey to Basketball Queensland CEO, Joshua Pascoe, recognising Basketball Queensland’s support of the team and its international tour.
Basketball Queensland Commercial and Marketing Manager Lachlan Nuttall said supporting initiatives like this reflects the broader role of basketball within the community.
"Our firefighters and emergency services personnel do an incredible job serving and protecting communities across Queensland, often in challenging and high-pressure situations. We see firsthand the impact they have, and we’re proud to support them in this opportunity to come together through basketball, honour an important moment in history, and represent Queensland internationally."
The tour itinerary includes commemorative services, cultural engagement activities, and international match-ups with fellow emergency service teams.
Individuals and organisations are encouraged to support the Queensland Fire Department Basketball Team as they represent Queensland internationally and take part in this significant commemorative tour. Support helps cover essential travel costs and ensures the team can fully participate in memorial events, cultural exchanges, and international fixtures.
