Basketball Queensland is excited to introduce the Next Gen 16s Program, launching for the first time in 2026.

Designed for athletes born in 2011 and 2012, this new program expands Basketball Queensland’s player development pathway and creates additional opportunities for Under 16 representative athletes to continue building their skills in a high-performance environment.

The introduction of Next Gen 16s strengthens the progression between junior representative basketball and higher-level pathway settings, ensuring athletes are better supported during a key stage of their development. By extending the successful Next Gen model to the Under 16 age group, Basketball Queensland aims to provide targeted skill development, team concepts, and greater exposure to the standards required at the next level.

The program will run across the second half of Term 2 and the first half of Term 3, giving athletes the opportunity to continue their development beyond the representative season and maintain momentum through the middle part of the year.
